Project: Suburban Farmhouse Inspiration

It’s about time. Our suburban ranch-style house needs some updating.

The house was built in the 50’s and has only been updated a couple of times in its lifetime. Once to add on an extension at the back where the current kitchen and dining are located, and again to add a carport to the front of the house. That seems to be it.

Tucked on Savannah’s south side in a well-known, mature neighborhood, our house is on a quiet little corner, right in between several schools and close to the hustle of local suburban happenings. After getting married, my husband and I decided that rather than moving and buying a house right away, we would do some work on our current house and stay for quite a bit longer.

We have several spaces throughout the home that need an overhaul:

  • The flooring throughout the house

  • Wood paneling in the den and dining room

  • The kitchen will be getting an expansion with a new layout, which means updated cabinets and countertops.

  • The breakfast area will get new windows and a door to the backyard

  • New tile or stone for the fireplace and hearth

  • The bathrooms will be updated with new tile and fixtures

  • A fresh coat of paint for every room

In regards to style, we plan to stick with a modern farmhouse theme in a neutral palette. I like all things cozy and comfy, and want the home to be a little brighter and feel more updated. I’ve started to post my inspiration on a Pinterest board, which I’ve also shared below! I’m inspired by mid-century modern style furniture with mixes of country and rustic traditional notes. See more below!
